Activity Idea:
Play the “Same and Different” game. Ask kids if it’s okay to be different than other people, or if they think that everyone should be the same. What would it be like if we were all the same? Have kids get into a variety of different groups based on eye color, hair color, favorite things, likes and dislikes, etc. Discuss how sometimes you are in one group and then in a different group. What can we learn from these differences?

Lyrics

I like strawberry jam on toast
the most
You like pickles and shoo-fly pie
I like big husky dogs
You like spiders and frogs
And making your sister cry
I like bright and sunny afternoons
You like raindrops on your face
Everyone can plainly see
You are different than me —
We are D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T!

Chorus:
But we’re GOOD-GOOD-G0OD
GOOD-GOOD at getting along
My way’s not right
And yours not wrong
We’re just D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T
And that’s a perfectly wonderful,
marvelous way to be!
I like marshmallows toasted
golden brown
You like black ones that caught fire
I like dinosaur bones
You like big ice cream cones
And swinging inside a tire.
I like staying up ‘til half past ten
You get grouchy after eight!
Everyone can plainly see
You are different than me
We are D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T!

(Repeat Chorus)

I like going on roller coaster rides
You get dizzy when you’re up high
I like to watch cartoons
You like to break balloons
And chasing butterflies.
I like singing songs (a) way up high
You like singing way down low
Everyone can plainly see
You are different than me
We are D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T!

(Repeat Chorus Twice)

And that’s a perfectly
Wonderful, marvelous
Absolutely indescribable, simply
excellent, TOTALLY AWESOME
Way to be!
