Activity Ideas (cooperation/fairness):
A) Play 3-legged races. Take 2 students and use a scarf to tie the right leg of one student to the left leg of the teammate. Students must cooperate to complete a walking/running obstacle course. What happens if one person is bossy and takes over? How do you learn to work together?
B) Read the story The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane DeRolf (PreK-3).
Discuss ways each crayon contributed to the picture. Talk about how your classroom is like the box of crayons. For example, each class member has traits that help the entire class; each student is like an individual crayon, but together they form a group, especially when they cooperate and work together. Give each child a crayon, and, together as a class/small group, children cooperate to create a picture together.

Lyrics

If your right foot could only
step forward
And your left foot could only
step back
What would you ever do?
You’d split in two! (ooo-owww) (OHHH - SO...)
FEET: YOU’VE GOT TO
COOPERATE
LEFT FOOT. RIGHT FOOT. 1-2-3!
THAT’S THE WAY IT’S GOT TO BE;
THINGS WILL BE GREAT
IF WE COOPERATE
LOOK AT US —
WORKING TOGETHER
HEY, WE’RE A TEAM!

If the cars at the green light
got going,
But the cars at the red light went too
What would they ever do?
They’d go eee-crr-crash!!!
(OHHH - SO...)
CARS: YOU’VE GOT TO
COOPERATE
YOUR TURN. MY TURN. 1-2-3!
THAT’S THE WAY IT”S GOT TO BE;
THINGS WILL BE GREAT
IF WE COOPERATE
LOOK AT US —
WORKING TOGETHER
HEY, WE’RE A TEAM!

If each kid in the class said,
“Hey, me first!”
And nobody was waiting his turn
What would we ever do?
It’d be a ZOO!
(ooo - zoo) (OHHH - SO...)
KIDS: YOU’VE GOT TO
COOPERATE
YOUR TURN. MY TURN. 1-2-3!
THAT’S THE WAY IT’S GOT TO BE;
THINGS WILL BE GREAT
IF WE COOPERATE
LOOK AT US —
WORKING TOGETHER
HEY, WE’RE A TEAM!

If sopranos would not sing
the high notes
And the basses would not
sing down low
What would we ever do?
Our song would be through (spoken)
Through? Yeah!!!
Child’s Voice:
They should have COOPERATED!
