BENEFITS: In the "Nursery Rhyme Medley," children get to explore fun hand and feet movements, while learning common nursery rhymes and supporting important hand and feet reflexes.

Lyrics

Nursery Rhyme Medley

(to tune of Baa, Baa, Black Sheep)
Sitting on the floor, legs straight out in front!
Curl your fingers and curl your toes
Squeeze them tightly - wiggle your nose
Open your fingers, and toes stretch out
Wiggle those fingers and toes about
Curl your fingers and curl your toes
Squeeze them tightly and wiggle your
nose

Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any
wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full
One for the master, one for the dame
One for the little boy who lives down the
lane
Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any
wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full

OK, now go on your hands and knees. Sit back on you heels, knees together. Hands shoulder-width apart. Keep your hands flat on the floor, fingers pointing forward. [See notes below re: proper position.*]

(to tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Rock, rock, rock yourself
Rock on hands and knees
Forward and back, forward and back,
Keep going, if you please

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
_________________________________________

(to the tune of If You’re Happy And You Know It)
Hey, that was terrific! Now, stand up,
and get ready for the next actions!

Now, we’re walking on the outside of our
feet
Yes, we’re walking on the outside of our
feet
Well, it may seem kind of silly
If the day is dark and chilly
But we’re walking on the outside of our
feet

Now, we’re walking on the inside of our
feet,
Yes, we’re walking on the inside of our
feet
Well, your knees may start a-knockin’
When the music starts a-rockin’
But we’re walking on the inside of our
feet,

Now, we’re walking on our tiptoes nice
and high (nice and high)
Yes, we’re walking on our tiptoes nice
and high (nice and high)
Reach your arms to climb a ladder
Doing your best is all that matters
Yeah, we’re walking on our tiptoes nice
and high (nice and high)

(And this time…)
We’re walking like a penguin on our
heels (on our heels)
We’re walking like a penguin on our
heels (on our heels)
It can look especially funny
When the weather’s warm and sunny
Yeah, we’re walking like a penguin on
our heels (on our heels)

If you're happy and you know it, shout
hooray!
If you're happy and you know it, shout
hooray!
If you're happy and you know it, and you
really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it, shout
hooray!

* Notes re: proper position for Row, Row, Row Your Boat reflex movements:

The child sits on the heels and stretches the arms forward. Next, child rocks forward until the head is right above the hands, and then rocks backwards to the heels, bouncing forwards again. The arms should be slightly bent, the hands should be directed forwards and the palms and fingers stretched, close to the floor. The lumbar region should sag a little and the thoracic spine should be straight and not arched backwards.

The ankles should be close to the floor
and the feet must not be raised. If there is severe weakness of the upper arms, the exercise can be modified so that the child only rocks forward half way to the area above the hands. Rocking on hands and knees is an extremely difficult exercise to do in an exact way when the STNR is not integrated. On the other hand, if it is done correctly, it can actually integrate the reflex.
